Frequently asked questions about homeowners insurance
It varies by state whether the law requires you to carry homeowners insurance. However, your mortgage lender may require certain coverages and amounts in order to issue a loan.
Hazard insurance is part of your homeowners policy and does not need to be purchased separately. Basically, hazard insurance covers the dwelling from roof to foundation, but not your home’s contents.
Coverage options, deductibles, and discounts may affect your policy cost. Check with your State Farm agent to help you choose what best fits your needs and budget.
Bundling the purchase of your home and auto policies isn’t the only way you can save money. From home security devices to a claim-free history, we’ve got options for discounts to help make insurance more affordable.2
Most flood insurance is written through the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP), which is administered by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). Your State Farm agent can probably assist you with obtaining flood insurance.
The ground can shake in almost any state. Do you have coverage with earthquake insurance?
Basically homeowners insurance covers the interior and exterior. Condo insurance covers your interior, not the structure. Check your condo association bylaws to determine the type of coverage required. Ask your State Farm agent to help determine what you need.
Most homeowners policies do not cover a mobile home. They require different types of coverage. State Farm offers a distinct manufactured home product in most states.
